VILLE PLATTE – Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, November 23, 2020 for Charles Andrus Chapman, 76, who passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 in Ville Platte.

Burial will take place in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.

Charles Andrus Chapman was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 4, 1944 to Andrus and Lita Fontenot Chapman.  Charles was a firm believer in always putting God first in your life and everything else will fall into place.  He was a kind hearted man of conviction who saw the good in everyone he met.  In his youth, he played football in high school and was a country boy down to his core.  At the young age of 15, he met Dorothy “Dot” DeVillier, the love of his life, and from that day forward, he spent the rest of his life loving her.  Charles was a hard worker and good provider for his family.  He worked at Charlie’s Barber Shop, in the offshore oil industry, and at a local gas plant.  Even after retiring, he continued to work at French Colony Apartments in Lafayette as a maintenance man.  One of the many things he taught his children was that if you believe in yourself and work hard, you can succeed in life.  Charles loved his tools; one of his goals later in life was to provide each of his grandchildren with a tool box full of tools and provide them with the knowledge of how to use each tool.  Charles will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy “Dot” DeVillier Chapman; son, Dirk Chapman of Chugwater, Wyoming; daughter, Jacinda “Cindy” Ardoin and husband, Marty of Ville Platte and Felisha Anderson and husband, Stuart of DeRidder; nine grandchildren,

Laramie, Lance and girlfriend, Shelby, Dusty, Caleb and wife, Kari, Kelsey and husband, Sage, Tyler and girlfriend, Christian, Ashley, Jaron and wife, Ayla, and Garrett.  Also left behind to cherish his memory are his six great grandchildren: Daniel, Jax, Reese, Bleu, Cadence, and Jolene, and his first cousins, Debbie Thibodeaux and husband, Mike, Tina Fontenot, and Anna Fontenot and husband, Mike.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Andrus and Lita Fontenot Chapman and uncle Roland Fontenot.

At the request of the family, visitation will be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 10:00 AM until time of service.
