Waylan Paul Smith, born on January 15, 1956, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Ville Platte. He left Ville Platte as a young man and resided in the New Orleans area until his later years. He returned to his childhood home his father built, where he lived out the final years of his life.
Waylan embraced the simple joys in life, finding happiness in the outdoors, fishing trips down to Grand Isle, and cooking the Cajun food his mother used to make. He was an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints fan. His trade was in carpentry, but he was generally useful and could fix anything he put his mind to.
He is survived by his twin sons, Dustin James Smith and wife Victoria, and Justin Webb Smith, as well as his grandchildren: Eliana, Camden, Adalyn, Jayden, and Mila. Waylan is further survived by his loving sisters, Deanna Stalsby, Phyllis Morrison, and Sybil Smith, and his beloved rescued cat, Boo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Webb and Elvy Guillory Smith, and his sisters, Gloria Reed and Sherry Penson.
Waylan Paul Smith will be remembered and greatly missed by those that loved him.
