With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Vernon Joseph Mire Sr. He left us peacefully on November 21, 2025, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Pine Prairie, Louisiana, at the age of 86.
Vernon was a man of many talents and passions. He was a skilled carpenter and a successful farmer. When he retired from farming, he ran his own sawmill. His excellent carpenter skills helped him to build the home where he lovingly raised his family. He was known for his hard work and dedication; qualities that reflected his deep-rooted farming heritage and commitment to nurturing the land he loved.
Vernon was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending countless hours in the great outdoors mostly in Black Lake Hunting Club and the Larto Lake areas. He shared his love for nature with family and friends. Teaching his sons and grandsons the arts of hunting and fishing. Additionally, he played an integral part in founding Dixie Youth Baseball in Pine Prairie. He dedicated his time to coaching youth and instilling in them teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. He shaped the lives of many young athletes along the way.
Vernon's greatest pride and joy came from his family. He loved his late wife Nelba of 63 years. Together they built a life they loved and adored. He loved his four children and raised them to work hard and care for their families with the same hard work and dedication he possessed. His grandbabies were the light of his life. He adored spending time with them, sharing stories and creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations to come. He is survived by his daughter, DeEtte Loyd and husband, Wayne of Turkey Creek; his sons, Joey Mire and wife, Donna of Raymond, MS, Chad Mire and wife, Tonya of Turkey Creek, and Kirk Mire and wife, Sylvia of Turkey Creek; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren with two on the way; and brother Raphael Mire and wife, Judy of Bayou Chicot.
