Obituary

Travis H. McFarlain Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and outdoorsman, passed away on October 25, 2026. Born in Ville Platte, Travis spent much of his life there and also made his home in Columbia.

Travis was a true outdoorsman who loved spending his time on the water. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed hunting just about everything, especially ducks, deer, and squirrels. The outdoors was where he was happiest, and he treasured the many memories made along the way.

A butcher by trade, Travis dedicated much of his working life to the meat market, eventually serving as a meat market manager at Walmart, where he remained until his retirement. He took pride in his work and in providing for the people he loved most. Above all, Travis was a family man who made sure his loved ones were cared for and never went without.

Travis also had a love for music and dancing. Whether listening to the sounds of swamp pop or zydeco, he enjoyed getting on the dance floor and making memories with family and friends. His love for the outdoors, music, and his family made him a man who knew how to enjoy life.

Travis shared 61 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sandra Soileau McFarlain. They were married on August 14, 1965, and together built a life centered on love, family, and devotion.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sandra Soileau McFarlain; his daughter, Laurie Dupre, and her husband, Craig; his sons, Travis H. McFarlain Jr. and his wife, Tina, and Scott McFarlain and his wife, Teres, his grandchildren, Ashley, Johnathan, Connor, Abbie, Jacie, Darin, Alexis, Courtney, and Brennan; and his great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Hunter, Averie, Maddox, Isabella, Arsen, Braxton, Kambree, Noah, Kolten, Vaeda, and Indie. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas W. McFarlain, and his wife, Carolyn.

Travis will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Vennis McFarlain and Audrey Fontenot McFarlain, and his beloved granddaughter, Allison Kaye McFarlain.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Ben Soileau. Visitation will resume on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the time of Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, officiated by Father Stephen Pellessier. Following the Mass, Travis will be laid to rest at Evangeline Memorial Park.

Travis leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family he loved deeply, and a legacy of hard work, devotion, and a love for the simple pleasures of life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
