Sybil Landreneau

April 2, 1940 — November 4, 2025

Sybil Thibodeaux Landreneau, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving children and granddaughter on November 4, 2025. She leaves behind to mourn her loss and live her legacy, her four children, Melanie Gamberutti and her husband Thomas of Lafayette, Robert Landreneau of Lafayette, Elizabeth Shaw of Pineville, and Rebecca Landreneau and Chad Hesnor of Redell, eight grandchildren, Christina Verrette and Albert Burnthorne, Jennifer Bodin and her husband Edward, Joshua Landreneau and his wife Kyleigh, Jace Landreneau, Jenna Shaw, Zachary Veillon and his wife Hali, Adam Guillory, and Hannah Messer and her husband Devin, sixteen and a growing number of great-grandchildren who will carry on her love and kindness for generations to come, two brothers, Aubrey Thibodeaux and his wife Una Mae, Kenneth Thibodeaux and his wife Jackie, and one sister, Roberta Thibodeaux Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert “Bobby” Landreneau, parents, Demas and Emethilde Semar Thibodeaux, two brothers, Overton Thibodeaux, Ray Thibodeaux, five sisters, Callie SRichard, Una Lee Sylvester, Patsy Stelly, Greta Brown, and Bonnie Deshotel, and one grandson, Jordan Ray Verrette.

Sybil was born in Church Point, La. and raised in Bristol, Louisiana. When she was five years old, her family moved to Garland, La, where her father was a sharecropper until he could purchase his own land where he farmed potatoes and cotton. She grew up with a deep love for faith, family, and hard work, values that guided her throughout her life. She was devoted to her church, her family, and her friends and her greatest joy came from the people she loved. Her home was always open and filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting smells of her cooking and baking.

Sybil found happiness in the little things, tending to her beautiful yard and garden, cooking for her family, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and going to Home Goods in Lafayette. She had a special way of making everyone feel cared for and loved. She was a quiet strength and a gentle spirit that touched every heart she encountered. She was embedded in the Ville Platte community through her life-long care of the elderly with the Evangeline Council on Aging, and being a Eucharistic minister for the sick and the homebound.

She will be remembered for her absolute love and devotion to her faith, her selflessness, her humor, her artistic talents, and her endless capacity to love. She lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.
