VILLE PLATTE It is with great sadness that the family of Simon Lafleur, 93, announces his passing on Tuesday, February 6, 2013 at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 PM Friday, February 8, 2013 at The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Ville Platte. Rite of Committal will follow in the M. B. Fontenot Cemetery in Ville Platte, Fr. Garrett McIntyre will officiate the services.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Simon leaves behind his loving wife, Versie Daire Lafleur and his three children: Charles Lafleur of Baton Rouge, Darla Daire and her husband, Mike of Ville Platte and Molly Charrier and her husband, Douglas of Hessmer. His memory will be carried on by his two grandsons: Jacques Charrier and Jake Daire they were his greatest joy. Simon will also be sadly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends he was loved by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
Simon was first and foremost a proud American soldier, serving his country with honor in United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific where his valiant efforts earned him several medals including a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. His second calling in this life was as a husband and father he was completely devoted to his wife, Versie and his children. He worked tirelessly to support his family as a painter for DeVille Lumberyard for many years.
He will now reunite in Heaven with his parents, Laurent and Felicia Fontenot Lafleur and his eight brothers and sisters they most certainly await his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts. Their family will once again be whole.
At the request of the Lafleur family, visitation will take place at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 5:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 and remain open until 9:00 PM that evening and continue at 8:00 AM Friday until the time of the service. A Rosary will be recited in his honor at 6:00 PM Thursday evening.
