VILLE PLATTE - Rusty Coldiron, a beloved member of the Ville Platte community, has passed away at the age of 76 in Ville Platte, Louisiana. On December 17, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, Russell Wayne “Rusty” Coldiron peacefully departed from this world. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Russell Wayne “Rusty” Coldiron was born on April 25, 1947, to his parents, Jim Cletus Coldiron and Geraldine Chapman Coldiron. Rusty led a fulfilling life, making significant contributions in multiple fields. He began his career as a Mud Engineer and Geo Physical Surveyor before pursuing his passion for fishing by owning his very own bait and tackle store called Rusty Tackle Mart. Rusty's dedication and expertise made him well-respected in both industries.
In addition to his successful professional career, Rusty also served his country as a Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War. He served aboard the USS Thomas Eddison as a Torpedoman, showcasing his commitment to his nation.
When he wasn't working or serving his country, Rusty enjoyed spending time indulging in his hobbies and interests. He had an immense love for hunting and fishing, which he could have done all the time if it weren't for Kathy telling him he had to work. Rusty's passion for outdoor activities brought him much joy throughout his life.
Rusty Coldiron leaves behind a legacy defined by love, dedication, and a zest for life. His kindness, hard work, and devotion have touched the lives of many. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the incredible life he lived and the impact he made on all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rusty will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
Rusty is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Kathy Coldiron. Their enduring bond was evident to all who knew them. Together they created a beautiful family filled with love and support. Rusty is also survived by their son, Joel Coldiron and wife, Shaunda of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Kathryn Coldiron of Ville Platte; and his brother, Norman Coldiron of Ville Platte.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Cletus Coldiron and Geraldine Chapman Coldiron.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte, from 3:00 PM and conclude at 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Thursday at 8:00 AM until time of service. Family and friends are invited to come together during this time to pay their respects and share fond memories of Russell.
