VILLE PLATTE It is with great sorrow that the family of Roland James Fontenot, 63, announces his passing on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his residence in Carencro he was surrounded by his loving family when he left this world to meet his Savior in the next. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM Saturday, February 2, 2013 at The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Ville Platte. Rite of Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum with Fr. Garrett McIntyre officiating.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Roland leaves behind his devoted wife, Margaret Thibodeaux Fontenot and his two children: James Fontenot of Ville Platte and his fianc, Tracy Lauterbach and Melissa Fontenot Ashley and her husband, Greg of Scott. His memory will be cherished by his five grandchildren: Lauren Ashley, Gavin Ashley, Kathryn Ashley, Naomi Ashley and Colton James Fontenot they were his greatest joy in life. He will be sadly missed by his brother, Gerald Leo Fontenot of Ville Platte and sister, Dr. Faith Joubert of Slidell.
Roland was a native of Ville Platte who served his country with great pride and honor in the United States Navy, United States Naval Reserve and the National Gaurd for eighteen and a half years. He worked to support his family as a painter, a patrolman and jailer with the Evangeline Parish Sheriffs Office and also with the Evangeline Parish Coroners office as an assistant coroner.
He will now reunite in Heaven with his father, Leo Fontenot, mother, Mary Mona Pitre Joubert, step father, Herbert Lee Red Joubert and grandchild, Mackenzie Fontenot they await his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the Fontenot family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 10:00 AM Friday, February 1, 2013 and will continue until the time of services Saturday. A Rosary will be recited in his honor Friday evening at 6:00 PM led by Father Austin Leger.
