Richard Brunet, Sr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Richard Brunet, Sr. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in Bunkie, Louisiana at the age of 79. Richard was born on Wednesday, March 20, 1946, in Chataignier, Louisiana and was a cherished member of the Point Blue community. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte with Deacon Ben Soileau officiating services.

Richard's early career began as a farmer, where he nurtured a profound connection to the land and the agricultural way of life. This foundation led him to a fulfilling role at the Farm Service Agency (USDA), where he dedicated over 30 years to working hands-on with farmers, offering guidance and support that had a lasting impact on their lives and livelihoods.

In addition to his professional achievements, Richard proudly served in the National Guard Reserve, demonstrating his commitment to his country and community. He was a man who believed in the importance of service, whether in his work or his military duties.

Richard had a passion for the outdoors; he found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to embrace nature and the tranquility it offered. He also had a love for cooking, often preparing meals that brought family and friends together.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Shelley Fruge, and her husband, Daniel, along with two grandchildren, Anne Catherine Fruge and Jobe Brunet. They will carry his memory forward, cherishing the moments they shared.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, Gerand and Regina Fontenot Brunet, and his son, Richie Brunet.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

Richard Brunet, Sr. will be remembered not only for his contributions to agriculture and his service to the nation but also for the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his legacy will live on in the hearts of many.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Bailey Place for their compassionate care of Richard.
