Lawrence Joseph “Roland” Young, a beloved figure and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Ville Platte, Louisiana at the age of 84. Roland was born on Tuesday, September 10, 1940, in Point Blue, Louisiana, and lived a life characterized by love, hard work, and dedication to his family and country.

Roland served his country with honor in the National Guard, reflecting his strong sense of duty and patriotism. His military service was just one aspect of a life that prioritized his responsibilities and commitment to those he cared about most. Roland’s professional journey was marked by a 25 year career at Union Tank Car, where he was valued for his contributions within the maintenance department. His commitment to his work mirrored his dedication to his home and loved ones, embodying the principles of hard work and reliability throughout his life.

Beyond his work and military service, Roland was a man of many interests. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and bartering guns, pursuits that connected him with nature and the community around him. His passion for raising pets also showcased his nurturing spirit, which extended to all aspects of his life.

His proudest accomplishments included not just his professional life, but also the loving relationships he fostered as a husband and father. Roland is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy Ardoin Young, and his two cherished daughters, Melonie Richard and Patricia Young. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Kerry Gautreaux, Logan Soileau, and Summer Richard and delighted in the radiance of five great-grandchildren,Lilly, Bailey, and Avery Gautreaux and Mason and Chloe Fontenot whom he adored and enjoyed spending time with. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his son in law, Todd Richard; sister, Mary Jones; and brother Jimmy Young.

Roland is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Fontenot Young; his daughter, Elizabeth Young; his brother, Johnny Young; his sister, Jane Stuart; and his great granddaughter, Izabella Gautreaux.

Roland will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his love of life, and his capacity to bring joy to all who knew him.

A visitation in honor of his life will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 9:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Chuck Ortego at 2:00 PM and will be immediately followed by a funeral service. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.
