VILLE PLATTE – Funeral services for Laura Lee Marcantel, who passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in Ville Platte, Louisiana at the age of 90, will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Services will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 1:00 PM. A burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Laura Lee Marcantel was born on September 18, 1933, in Elton, Louisiana to Deus and Lucille Fuselier. She was employed by B & S Grocery as a cashier, but in her heart and soul, her most important job was being a homemaker. As a homemaker, she took immense joy in creating a loving and nurturing environment for her family. Her warm personality shone through in everything she did. Laura had a big heart for her family and friends, always ready with love and support. Although her memory sometimes failed her in her later years and she may not have known everyone’s name, she knew exactly where they belonged in her heart.
In her free time, Laura pursued a variety of hobbies and interests that brought her great happiness. She found solace in sewing beautiful garments, nurturing vibrant gardens, and embarking on camping and traveling adventures with her family. Laura cherished these moments spent with them, creating memories that will be forever treasured. Laura Lee Fuselier Marcantel's kind spirit and loving nature will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence illuminated every room she entered, bringing joy and warmth to those around her. The legacy of her love and care will continue to live on through generations.
Laura will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched. She leaves behind two devoted daughters: Helen Morein and husband, Pat of Iowa, Louisiana, and Candace Morein of Ville Platte; and one adoring son, Joey Marcantel and companion, Shawn Matherne of Schriever.
One of Laura's greatest joys in life came from being a grandmother. She adored spoiling her grandchildren with love and affection. Shane Morein and wife, Anise of Lake Charles, Crystal Collins and husband, Chad of Alvin, Texas, Holly Marcantel and companion, Justin Brunet of Houma, Chad Marcantel and wife, Heidi of Gray, and Dalton Morein with companion, Natalie Charlie of Ville Platte were proud to call Laura their grandmother. Laura also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren: Chelsie Head and husband, Aaron, Griffin Morein, Lane Valure, Nate Valure, Lori Kate Morein, Case Collins, Caroline Collins, Dean Marcantel, and Rixton Morein. Each of them received a special place in her heart and helped Laura find a special joy in her later years. She is also survived by one sister, Lorma Rider of Elton.
Laura is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Elson Marcantel; parents, Deus and Lucille Fuselier; son in law, John Adam Morein; sister, Rena Mae Ortego; and brother, Clyde Fuselier.
A visitation to share fond memories of Laura will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, January 8 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday, January 9 from 8:00 AM until time of dismissal.
Serving as Pall Bearers will be Shane Morein, Chad Marcantel, Dalton Morein, Randy Ortego, Dennis Fuselier and Greg Granger.
