It is with heavy hearts that the family of Laura Marie Fontenot, 66, announces her passing on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Laura was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her life was an extraordinary testament to service, love, and faith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. Father Jude Halphen will celebrate the Mass with concelebrants, Father Stephen Pellessier and Father Simeon Gallagher. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery.
A registered nurse for over 40 years, Laura was known not just for her professional skills, but for the compassion and wit that defined her character. She touched countless lives through her caring nature, always going the extra mile to ensure her patients felt comforted and valued. Her sense of humor was an added touch to all who worked with her.
On her time off, Laura was often found seeking the peace that nature provides while working in her yard and flowerbeds. She carried her love of flowers into her home, where she always kept fresh cut flowers. Her spirit shined the brightest through her dedication to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She and Costello enjoyed spending time together cooking, watching sports, traveling, and fishing. Laura’s grandchildren were the light of her world, and she was the best Nana. Her presence will be missed.
Laura held a strong faith that guided her and provided comfort. It was this faith that inspired those around her, encouraging them to persevere and to embrace both the trials and the joys of life with grace.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jerry “Costello” Fontenot; daughters, Jamie Vidrine (Ryan), Natalie Olivier (Barret), Cherie Barnes (Joey) and Melanie Grant (Greg); grandchildren, Collin Barnes, Jacob Barnes, William Barnes, Molly Vidrine, Claire Vidrine, Louis Vidrine, Caroline Olivier, Eli Olivier, and Juliet Olivier; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie Fontenot (Denise), Larry Fontenot (Jan), Dennis Fontenot (Jan) and John Fontenot (Connie); sisters, Linda Deville (Stefan) and Lorraine Loup (Harold); and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
