Burial will take place in the Evangeline Park Cemetery.
John Littell (Doc) Daire was born in Chataignier, La. on January 27, 1931, to Darbes and Omerine Ortego Daire. While a student at Ville Platte High School, Doc was a boxer during the “golden days of high school boxing”. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his beloved country during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed outside of Paris, France and often spoke fondly of his time served in Paris. He always felt that it was a wonderful experience for a young man that grew up in Tate Cove, Louisiana. Upon his honorable discharge and return to Ville Platte, Doc worked at Cabot Corporation and then Continental Oil Company until his retirement. Doc was a spiritual man who attended daily mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and shared his strong Catholic faith with his children. He believed in community service and was a member of the Woodmen of the World Society. He was especially dedicated to and felt called to meticulously maintain the Shaw Cemetery where several of his relatives are buried.
Having been raised in south Louisiana, Doc was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at “The Little Camp” with his beloved brothers, sons and grandson. When it came to LSU game day, he cheered loudly for the Tigers of LSU, especially during baseball season. Creating miniature and full-sized cypress furniture was also a passion of his. It enabled him to use his great creativity, skills, and love of woodworking. Many pieces are enjoyed by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to this day. His greatest joy was spending time with and caring for his family; everything he did was with them in mind. Doc will be greatly missed, and his memory will remain in their hearts forever.
Doc is survived by three sons, John Daire and wife, Debbie of Lafayette, Tommy Daire and wife, Laura of Ville Platte, and Joey Daire, and wife, Laurie of Ville Platte; brother, Delouis Daire of Ville Platte; sister, Gladys Darby of Opelousas; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Florella (Flo) Daire; his parents, Darbes and Omerine Daire; one son, Kim Anthony Daire; three brothers, Marvin Daire, Joseph Darbis (JD) Daire, and Kerron Daire; and three sisters, Pauline Rape, Vercie Lafleaur, and Ethel Darby.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 10:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed in his honor and led by Deacon Ben Soileau on Tuesday at 1:30 pm.
