Ville Platte

John Norris Comeaux Sr., born on January 14, 1935, in Ville Platte, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by loved ones. His long and fulfilling life leaves a legacy cherished by family, friends, and the entire Ville Platte community.

A proud graduate of St. Edmund High School, John completed his studies in 1953. During his school years, he excelled in football and other sports, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of teamwork and camaraderie. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the Army Infantry and deploying to Germany, where he served with dedication and honor.

John returned home and embarked on a career that spanned more than four decades. He dedicated 25 years as a respected parts manager and salesman for Case Tractor and then went to work at Veillon Motors and Morein Motors in Ville Platte. His commitment to honest hard work and his outgoing, friendly nature made him a beloved figure among colleagues and clients alike.

Devotion to community was an essential part of John’s life. He was an active member of the Lions Club in Eunice and participated faithfully in the LeRoy Drive Rosary Group, which was started by John and his wife Sherry in 2001. As a longtime parishioner at Queen of All Saints Church, he was a comforting constant for many.

Family was John’s greatest joy and pride. He is survived by his children: John "Jay" Comeaux, Dr. Greg Fusilier (Renee), Joey Fusilier (Monique), Mitzi Vincent (Craig), and Susan F. Soileau (Gary). He was a beloved grandfather to Ryan Fontenot, Amy Godeaux, Karen Barton (Jimmy), David Fusilier (Stephen), Dr. Katelyn Woolridge (Dr. Noah), Adrienne S. Wolf (Thomas), Michael Soileau (Jillian), Jacob Fusilier (Taylor), Allison Fusilier (Kavitha), Robert Fusilier, Blake Vincent (Tiffany), Austin Vincent (Angelle), Alex Vincent (Laken), and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Also mourning his loss is his brother-in-law, Jim Kirby.

He now joins his parents, Rodney Paul Comeaux and Madeline Lena Manuel Comeaux; his wife, Sherry Israel Comeaux; and his brothers, Russel Comeaux and Winston James Comeaux, and sister, Genevieve Kirby.

Known for his positive spirit, John was outgoing and always ready with a warm smile and a witty joke. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and found happiness in the roles of both patriarch and friend. John deeply loved his family, cherishing every moment spent babysitting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His home was often filled with the sound of Cajun music and laughter. A proud Cajun, he relished speaking French with loved ones, keeping vibrant traditions alive. John also enjoyed tending to his garden and lawn, and he took special pride in his goldfish pond, simple pleasures that brought him great satisfaction and peace.

Together with his beloved wife, John found joy in traveling and cooking Sunday dinners, his specialty being barbecue, for their family, creating memories that they will long treasure.

Friends and family are invited to honor John’s life at the visitation on July 6, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM at Ardoin's Funeral Home.
