Jean Batiste Andrus Sr., a lifelong resident of Ville Platte, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the age of 79.
Jean was a man whose life was defined by hard work, dedication, and love for his family. For more than 40 years, he proudly worked for Fugro Chance as a surveyor in the oil and gas industry. Known for his exceptional knowledge and professionalism, Jean specialized in sonar surveying, earning a reputation for excellence that took him to projects around the world. He believed in doing every job the right way, and through his work, he built not only a successful career but also a life his family could be proud of.
When he wasn’t working, Jean found his greatest happiness outdoors. Deer hunting was one of his favorite pastimes, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time in the woods. He also had a remarkable talent for fixing just about anything and enjoyed building and hand-painting wooden model airplanes and trains, a hobby that reflected his patience, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Whether working with his hands or spending time with those he loved, Jean found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Above all else, Jean was devoted to his family. He cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Jean Batiste Andrus Jr.; his daughter, Lisa Marie Andrus; twelve grandchildren: Kayla, Jonathon, Zane, Travis, Trenten, Tristan, Courtney, Victoria, Emily, Jade, Alana, and Jenna; and six great-grandchildren: Layla, TJ, Aiden, Emilynn, Emery, and Elizabeth.
Jean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rumae Nell Fontenot Andrus, and by his parents. Joseph Crowell Andrus and Mae Johnson Andrus
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Ardoin Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Todd Shearin officiating. Burial will follow at the Tee Mamou Cemetery.
Though he has departed this earthly life, Jean's legacy of hard work, integrity, and devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.
