Obituary

James "Cap" Dwayne Soileau, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community servant, passed away peacefully at his home on June 18, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born November 6, 1962, in Mamou, James was a man whose presence was felt far and wide, well known for his outgoing nature and unwavering willingness to help others.

James dedicated a significant portion of his life to the service of others. He spent 25 years as a devoted firefighter, receiving multiple awards in recognition of his bravery and commitment. Alongside this noble career, he worked as a plant operator for the city of Ville Platte, embodying a strong work ethic and a passion for his labor.

A great husband and father, James dearly loved his wife, Cynthia, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. Together, they built a family centered on love, joy, and togetherness. James took great pride and pleasure in spending time with his children, daughters Heather Eaves and her husband Devin, and Haley Klingler with her husband Christopher, as well as his cherished grandchildren Ava Bertrand, Grayson Bertrand, Gage Fontenot, and an expected baby boy. His family was the heart of his life, and his enjoyment of simple comforts, a Budweiser or a Crown and Coke in hand while sitting around a campfire, and listening to some of the classics, like Grand Funk Railroad or Lynard Skynard, and stirring up something in a black pot. Good mood, good food!

James’s spirit extended beyond his professional life. He found joy in deer hunting, gardening, listening to music, and most importantly, making lasting memories with those closest to him. His loyal dog, Charlie, was a faithful companion through many of life’s moments.

James was born to Winston and Winnie Soileau, who have since passed, and was also preceded in death by his sister Vicky Soileau, an unborn grandchild, and his in-laws Jimmy and Earline Guillory. His surviving family includes his brothers Winston "Jr" Soileau and Mitchell Todd Soileau, his brothers-in-law Brett Guillory and wife Lea, and Tony Guillory and wife Vanessa, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives who all held him in the highest regard.

James "Cap" Dwayne Soileau leaves behind a legacy marked by service, kindness, and love. His contributions to the safety and well-being of his community, along with the deep bonds he forged within his family, resonate profoundly. Though his loss is deeply felt, his spirit and memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He will be remembered with respect and affection, treasured forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
