VILLE PLATTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gussie Fontenot at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Father Mitch Guidry will celebrate the Mass. Burial will take place at the Te Mamou Cemetery.
Gussie Fontenot, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 2, 1927 in Ville Platte to Guillaume and Myra Fontenot. Gussie was a veteran, fighting for our country’s freedom in the United States Army, and was also a merchant marine. He loved fishing and took pride in his garden. Gussie also raised rabbits, crickets, quail, pigeons, parakeets, and anything with feathers. He enjoyed farming cotton and potatoes and loved to walk every day where he took pleasure being outdoors. Most of all, he loved his family and was a committed father and grandfather. Gussie will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Gussie is survived by his sons: Michael K. Fontenot and his wife, Sandra of Kenneth City, Florida; Ronald J. Fontenot and his wife, Cathy, of Bayou Chicot; Daniel L. Fontenot and his wife, Phyllis, of Bayou Chicot; his daughters: Sue Fontenot Lavergne and husband, L.C., of Bayou Chicot; Wilda Fontenot Stickells and husband, Jimmy, of Echo. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Gussie is preceded in death by his wife, Bernella Deville Fontenot, his daughter, Judy Ann Fontenot, his parents, Guillaume and Myra Fontenot, and his brother, Clavens Fontenot.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Ben Soileau at 5:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 8:00 AM until time of service.
