Eloi Owen Demoruelle was called by God to celebrate Easter in heaven. Let the angels rejoice! He left earth peacefully Saturday evening, April 4, with Verna, his wife of 62 years, at his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 07, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Owen was born in Ville Platte, LA to Eloi Emile and Marie Vidrine Demoruelle on December 13, 1927.

He proudly served his country in the US Navy as an X-ray technician during World War II and the Korean War.

Owen married Verna Dean Guillory in 1953. Their shared love of music and dance brought much joy to their home which they passed on to their four daughters. They enjoyed sharing their talents with high school students organizing many amateur musical productions.

He was active in Sacred Heart Catholic parish, and later at Our Lady Queen of All Saints parish, serving as lector, choir director, and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and was an educator for more than 20 years.

Owen was dedicated to preserving the French language in south Louisiana, supported CODOFIL, and supervised French teachers from Belgium and France teaching in Evangeline Parish schools.

He loved working in his flower gardens, hybridizing over 100 different types of daylilies.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, L.P. Demoruelle and Rodric Demoruelle. He is survived by his wife, Verna, and daughters Debora Hamilton (Kern), Nanette Bell (Randy), Libbye Melancon, and Laura Launey (Byron); Seven grandchildren, Daniel Morgan, Holly Morgan Walker, Jacob Melancon, Mathew Bell, Marcus Launey, Andrew Bell, and Olivia Launey; Six great grandchildren, Max, Annalise, Lauren, Rosalee, Michael and Thomas. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruby Nell Manuel and Mattie Buller.

At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, April 6th from noon until 8:30 pm and again on Tuesday, April 7th from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Monday evening.
