A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte for Dorothy “Dot” Knighten Duplechain who passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the age of 72. A rosary will be prayed in her honor at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2022, and will be led by Deacon Chuck Ortego.
In early May of 1950, une petite jolie blonde named Dorothy Ann was born in Ville Platte to W.R. Knighten and Ella Deville Knighten. Not caring for the way a certain elementary school nun drew out the three syllables of her name, Dorothy preferred the cute moniker of “Dot,” which perfectly fit her fun and bubbly personality.
One night at the Evangeline Club in the late 1960s, Dot met, soon fell in love with and then married her complete opposite, Ron Duplechain. Dot, with her compassionate nature, worked various jobs, including taking care of the elderly and even as an elementary school substitute teacher. Over 30 years later, her young students still remember her as their favorite substitute, reading “Three Billy Goats Gruff,” among other stories. But, the job she loved most was providing a loving home for her husband and two children.
One thing about Dot: she never met a stranger! She could talk anyone’s ear off, make them laugh and forget their troubles. Dot was outgoing, loved to dance, and loved nature and animals.
Dot’s loving and compassionate heart will be deeply missed and never forgotten by her children, Michael Duplechain of Mansura and Nancy Duplechain of Ville Platte, and her granddaughter, Lyla Duplechain, of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by many dear friends and family members who cherished their time with her.
She now joins in Heaven her husband of 37 years, Ronald Duplechain; her parents, W.R. Knighten and Ella Deville Knighten; and her brother, Charles Knighten.
