Dempty Wilfred Manuel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, at the age of 90. He was born on Sunday, October 14, 1934, in Duralde and was a pillar of strength and an embodiment of dedication to his family and community.
“Loving husband and father, if you were to look up the term "provider" in the encyclopedia, there would be a picture of my dad. Everything he did in life was a testament to that. My dad did not finish high school, but he worked his butt off (primarily serving at the Boise Cascade Papermill in Elizabeth and later at the Mardco Plywood Plant in Morrow) and put five boys through college. He always put his kids first and made numerous sacrifices so we could have a good life and a better life than he did. He was so proud of his boys, grandkids, and great grandkids. The biggest joy of his life was watching all of us in sports. Later in life, he enjoyed camping and traveling with friends and the occasional casino trip. Dad, you can rest in peace; for you have done your job; your family is good. Now it's time for you to return to your Father in Heaven. We love you.”
One of his proudest accomplishments was coaching Little League Baseball, a testament to his strong belief in fostering skills and teamwork in the younger generation.
His unwavering commitment to his career and community was matched only by his love for his family. He was the cherished husband of Della Deshotel Manuel, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 72 years. Together they raised five sons: Dempty Manuel, Jr., Craig Manuel (Kathy), Kevin Manuel (Sharon), Kip Manuel (Laurie), and Spencer Manuel (Candace).
Dempty's legacy lives on through his 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and one great great grandchild, all of whom he adored. His enduring love and support will be remembered fondly by each of them.
Dempty was preceded in death by his parents, Octave and Elita Faul Manuel, and his sister, Eppie Manuel Thibodeaux.
Dempty's life was filled with purpose and generosity, and he leaves behind a rich legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.
