Delores G. Messer Blood

TURKEY CREEK—Delores G. Messer Blood, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 75.  Born on October 28, 1948, in Opelousas, LA to the late Sherman Granger and Lucy Opry Granger.  Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Turkey Creek, LA on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 1:00 PM. A burial will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery.

Delores adored spending quality time with her loved ones and derived immense happiness from taking care of her great-grandchildren. The boundless love she poured into their lives has left an indelible mark on each one of them. Delores's heart was as generous as it was compassionate. She had an innate ability to offer comfort and support when it was most needed, providing solace to those who sought her wisdom.

She dedicated many years working at Bayou Chicot High School tending to the students and staff as a custodian, making sure everyone had a clean and welcoming environment. She took great pride in her work, ensuring that every corner of the school sparkled with cleanliness and order.

Outside of her work and family commitments, Delores delighted in the simple pleasures of life. Playing bingo and poke-no were among her favorite pastimes. These games brought a sense of excitement and camaraderie that she cherished deeply. Through these activities, she formed lasting bonds with those around her.

She is survived by her son, Shane Messer and wife, Reba Messer; stepson, Shelton Messer; daughter, Charlotte Soileau and husband, Benny Soileau; four grandchildren, Levine and wife, Melia Messer, Christina and husband, Ryan Murphy, Selena and Logan Morrison and Shona Messer; and her seven great-grandchildren, Brayden , Madison, Avery, Dailen, Kaiden, Mila and Jensen.  Also, left to cherish her memories are her brother, Sherman Darbonne; her sisters, Priscilla Bourque, Bobbye Delcambre and Debbie Guy.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Oby Blood; parents, Sherman Granger, and Lucy Opry Granger; stepmom, Ruby Granger; son, Little Odell Messer; daughter, Shona Jagneaux; two brothers, Carl DaVille, and Larry Granger.

At the family’s request, a visitation will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Thursday, January 18, 2024, beginning at 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM.  Visitation will resume on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 9:00 AM until the time of service.
