Curtis P. Smith, a native of Pine Prairie and longtime resident of Washington, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, in Lafayette, at the age of 87.
Curtis was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he honorably served his country for 19 years. During his military career, he proudly completed two tours in Vietnam, serving both on land and aboard ship. His dedication and service were recognized with the Navy Commendation Medal.
Following his military service, Curtis worked for The Credit Bureau of Opelousas and later with U-Haul. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and living life on his own terms.
Curtis enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he never missed an opportunity to enjoy a good horse race. He was also a devoted LSU fan. A graduate of Grand Prairie High School, Curtis carried his love for his home and his family throughout his life.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Randy Paul Smith, Daniel Curtis Smith, Marc Edward Smith, and Don Kleinfelder; his daughter, Karen MacPhee; and his stepchildren, Calvin Patterson and Tammy Patterson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nat, Calvin, Emma, Zoe, Samuel, Alysia, Justin, Robby, and others; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Elter Smith; and his sister, Eva Patrice Roy.
Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Willy Smith, and mom’s Maggie Smith, and Beulah Smith; his son, Randal Curtis Eddward Smith; his wife, Patsy Ann Smith; and his sisters, Eudale McDaniel, Ouida Lafleur, and Tommye Campbell.
Curtis will be remembered for his years of dedicated service to his country, his love for his family, and the many interests that brought him joy throughout his life. His memory will remain with those who knew and loved him.
