VILLE PLATTE It is with immense sadness that the family of Carmen Adele LaFleur Fruge, 91, announces the passing of their beloved matriarch she passed away peacefully at her residence Monday, June 9, 2014, her devoted daughter, Margaret, was by her side when she left this world to join her Savior in the next. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church of Ville Platte Rite of Committal will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery with Fr. Brad Guillory as Celebrant.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Carmen leaves behind her precious daughter, Margaret F. Chapman and her husband, Randy of Ville Platte. Her legacy will be carried forward by her muchloved grandchildren: Lance Chapman and his wife, Dana, Dr. Luke Chapman and his wife, Jennifer, Adam Chapman and his wife, Kayla all of Ville Platte, Emily Fruge Hood and her husband, Dominic of Chicago, IL., and Jacques Fruge, Jr. of Lafayette. Carmen was further blessed with seven great grandchildren: Aubrey, Ellis, Vivian, Jack, Abigail, Will and Drew Chapman. She will also be mourned by her only surviving sibling, Dwight LaFleur and his wife Flo of Ville Platte and a sister in law, Virginia Fruge, also of Ville Platte. Carmen also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends and former students that will not soon forget her sweet disposition and bright smile.
Upon graduating from Ville Platte High School, she and her sister, Valerie, attended Ursuline College in New Orleans, where she majored in business. After completing two years at Ursuline College, Carmen then graduated from Louisiana State University of Baton Rouge after earning a degree in mathematics. She worked briefly as a legal secretary she then changed careers and began teaching at Ville Platte High School. Carmen then left teaching to devote herself to her greatest passion of all, the task of raising her young family, their well being and happiness was the most important mission she ever undertook. Years later she returned to teaching, finishing out her career as a math resource teacher at James Stephens.
She will now reunite in Heaven with her two sons, Jack Fruge, Jr. and Christopher Fruge, her parents, Linus Burke and Lydie Dardeau LaFleur and her siblings and their spouses, Valerie LaFleur Soileau and her husband, Duffy, Claudia LaFleur Hamilton and her husband, Bill and her brother in law, Jimmy Fruge. Their reunion will surely be a joyous occasion.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2014 and will continue until the time of the service a Rosary will be recited in her honor Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM.
