Binned Gabriel "BG" Fontenot, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Evangeline Parish community, passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on December 4, 1939, BG lived a life rich in dedication, warmth, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM on June 8, 2026, at Belaire Cove Chapel.

BG’s enduring legacy is marked by his remarkable 50 years of service as a detective with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office, a career distinguished by commitment, integrity, and a deep sense of justice. Alongside his law enforcement work, he was the proud owner and manager of Teche Finance Services, where his leadership and compassion touched the lives of many.

Outside of his professional pursuits, BG was a man of vibrant passions and boundless generosity. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting and fishing, embracing the natural world with a spirit of adventure. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his devotion to family. BG was the heart of countless family gatherings, most notably his beloved family day barbecues under the oak tree, a joyous tradition that brought warmth and laughter to all who attended. Whether camping under the stars, cooking up Cajun delicacies, or dancing to the lively rhythms of Cajun music, BG's presence radiated joy and friendship. He was truly a friend to all and a devoted family man, whose kindness and welcoming nature were known far and wide.

BG’s proudest accomplishment was his loving relationship with Linda Lieux, his devoted wife, who stood by his side through all the seasons of life. Together, they built a family filled with love and enduring bonds. He is survived by Linda Lieux Fontenot of Walker; his children, Steven Gabriel Fontenot (Tanya) of Walker, Cynthia Marie Thomas (Randy Brunet) of Morgan City, Annette Rhodes of Morgan City, Melanie Ann Fontenot of Morgan City, and Kate Fontenot (Kane Thomas) of Jarreau. His legacy also lives on vibrantly in his many grandchildren—Larry (Sara), Jacob, Jenae, Lori, Logan, Lacey (Beau), CJ, Haley, Ty (Cheyenne), Madeline, Annabelle, Gabriella, and Olivia—and 17 great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of BG’s spirit forward.

BG’s life was also shaped by the memories of those who preceded him in death: his parents, Houston and Leta Fontenot, his son, Bryan Glynn Fontenot, and his brother, John Keith Fontenot. Their memory remains a quiet thread woven through the story of his life.

The impact BG had on all who knew him is immeasurable. His love for his family, his dedication to his community, and his warm, hearty spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished. As family and friends gather to celebrate the extraordinary life he led, they find comfort in the countless joyful moments he created—moments that reflect a man who truly lived with purpose, love, and an open heart.

A visitation to honor BG's life will take place at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 5 PM to 8 PM, with a rosary at 6 PM led by Deacon Tim Donovan. Visitation will reopen on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 9 AM until the time of services. A burial will follow at Belaire Cove Cemetery with Father Mitch Guidry officiating.

Binned Gabriel "BG" Fontenot’s passing marks the close of a remarkable chapter, but his legacy of love, service, and friendship will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him. He leaves behind a profound example of what it means to live fully and love deeply, and in that, he will never be forgotten.
