VILLE PLATTE - Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM at Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church in Opelousas, LA on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 for Carolyn Smith, 69, who passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Opelousas General Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Reverend Regina B. Hickman will preside over all services.
Burial will take place in Evangeline Memorial Cemetery in Ville Platte, LA.
Carolyn Smith was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana on August 18, 1949 to Arthur Smith and Marguerite Andrus Smith. Carolyn was a retired public-school teacher, having taught for 30 years at Plaisance Elementary School specializing in Mathematics. She taught 7th and 8th graders, inspiring hundreds of students in her teaching career; sometimes teaching the children and grandchildren of her previous students. Many times, she would meet former students who would ask "Ms. Smith, do you remember me?" and she always did. Carolyn loved to entertain and enjoyed holiday get togethers with her family and beloved cousins. She was an excellent cook and loved to share her recipes.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Arthur Paul Roche and wife Karla McBride Roche of Daphne, AL; grandchildren, Ian Paul Roche of Daphne, AL, Coby Menard of Lafayette, and Jace Menard of Daphne, AL; sister, Ramona Smith of Ville Platte; brother, Steve Smith of Sunset; and her beloved cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Smith and Marguerite Andrus Smith.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM.
Pallbearers are Steve Smith, Ian Paul Roche, Coby Menard, Jace Menard, Audie Andrus, Jason Andrus, Bryan Andrus, and Owen Landry.
