VILLE PLATTE - With great sadness, the family of Ray Verrette announces his passing on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the age of 89.
Ray Verrette was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School of Ville Platte. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and is a combat Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Upon his return he married Audrey Ardoin and moved to Lafayette, LA, to attend SLI, now UL. During this time, he worked at Cabot Corporation. As a talented draftsman, he returned to Ville Platte and became a building contractor and owned and operated A. R. Verrette Building Materials. Later he purchased and managed the Opelousas Air Service. He also farmed with his son-in-law of Teche Farms in Port Barre, LA. Ray's hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking for family and friends.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Audrey Ardoin Verrette and his five children: Charmaine V. Pollingue and husband Deacon Bill of Opelousas, LA; Donna V. Soileau and husband Deacon Ben of Ville Platte, LA; Pamela V. Sonnier and husband Ricky of Lafayette, LA; Dr. Paul Ray Verrette of Chalmette, LA; and Rachelle V. Doucet and husband Nicky of Covington, LA. Ray is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Jennie P. Stelly, Jessica Soileau, John Ben Soileau, Katie M. Hebert, Dustin Manuel, Scott Sonnier, Christina Verrette, Alex D. Seghers, Jacqueline Doucet, Madeline Doucet, Mary Renee Doucet, and Emily Doucet, as well as sixteen great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Adam Verrette and Alida Landreneau Verrette; his siblings, Joseph Verrette, Rosemary V. Vidrine, and Grace V. Miller. He is also preceded in death by one grandchild, Jordan Ray Verrette.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and again on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:00 AM until a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic. Services will be officiated by Father Mitch Guidry, followed by entombment at Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Deacons Bill Pollingue and Ben Soileau will recite a rosary at 6:30 PM on Friday.
